Which golf formats does Pinli support?
Scramble and best ball. Either way, the captain enters one team score per hole. Stroke play, match play, Stableford and handicaps aren't supported.
Pinli is built for charity and fundraiser scrambles and best ball events, the formats most outings play.
Scramble
Everyone hits, and the team plays its best shot. This is the default for new tournaments.
Best ball
Everyone plays their own ball, and the team takes the best score on each hole.
In both formats, the team captain enters one score per hole for the team on their phone. The leaderboard ranks teams by score against par.
Set your format
- Open your tournament and go to Settings → Format & rules.
- Pick Scramble or Best ball under Format.
- Set your house rules if you use them:
- Mulligans per player: do-over shots each player can use. Honor system.
- Minimum drives per player: how many times each player’s tee shot must be used. 0 means always the best drive.

The format locks once registration opens, so set it before you open registration.
Which formats aren’t supported?
- Stroke play, where each player keeps their own score
- Match play
- Stableford
- Player handicaps and GHIN
- League or club championship management
Common questions
Can I use handicaps or net scores? No. Teams enter their actual strokes on each hole, and the leaderboard compares them to par.
Can I switch from scramble to best ball later? Yes, until registration opens. After that the format is locked. See Why can’t I change my course or date?
Can I split the results into flights? Yes, in either format. Flights split your final results into groups (A, B, C) so more teams win something.
