How do team size, teams per hole and field size work?

Team size is players per team. Teams per hole is how many teams start on each hole at the shotgun. Your field size is the holes on your course times teams per hole.

Three numbers decide how big your tournament is. You set them in Settings → Format & rules.

Team size

How many players are on each team. New tournaments start at 4. Captains can register with fewer players and fill the open spots later.

Each player’s share of the entry fee is the team’s entry fee divided by the team size. With a $440 fee and 4 players, each player’s share is $110.

Teams per hole

How many teams start on each hole at the shotgun. New tournaments start at 2.

Field size

Your field is the number of holes on your course times teams per hole. Pinli works it out for you:

  • 18 holes × 2 teams per hole = 36 teams
  • With 4 players per team, that’s 144 golfers

You’ll see it as Team capacity under Settings → Event details. When the field is full, new teams go to the reserve list if you keep one. If not, sign-ups stop. See How does the reserve list work?

Can I change these after registration opens?

Team size locks once registration opens. Teams per hole can still change, so you can make room for more teams:

  1. Go to Settings → Format & rules.
  2. Under Teams per hole, click Change it and reassign holes.
  3. Enter the new number and click Change. The window shows your new field size.

Teams keep their starting hole. Going down needs room on every hole. If a hole would have too many teams, tick Unassign teams that don’t fit to move the extras to unassigned, or leave it off and the change is blocked. Scores are never lost.

Common questions

How do I fit more teams in? Raise teams per hole with Change it and reassign holes. Your field size goes up with it.

Do trial tournaments use the full field size? Not until you activate. A trial takes up to 5 teams, whatever your field size is.
